His battle with terminal lung cancer has not put Howard Davis Jr. out of action.
When the Plantation couple saw a news report of a teen swiping an iPad from the boy at a Tamarac beauty salon where his mother works, they stopped there and dropped off a new iPad.
Sheriff Scott Isreal and Tamarac city commissioners will be on hand at 7:30 p.m. as sheriff’s department officials present Davis with an award for his “kind act,” BSO captain Neal Glassman said.
“We’re expecting a crowd of some 1,000 people,” Glassman added.
The boy, Alejandro, and his mother also are expected to attend.
To help his family defray medical costs, the Howard Davis Jr. Foundation will hold a gala benefit on Aug. 15. The event is set for 8-11 p.m. at Tower Club Fort Lauderdale. For details, visit HowardDavisJrFoundation.org.
